AFTER last summer's torrential rain proved a nightmare for many town and village's carnival events, the Whaley Bridge Rose Queen Festival committee are praying this year for some sunshine.
The town's events start this Saturday (June 28) with their carnival parade, which leaves the canal basin at 2pm en-route to Whaley Bridge Primary School field for the rest of the days events.

As well as stalls and fair attractions, there will be a display by Ben Potter with his birds of prey and a local martial arts group, and the crowning of the 2008 royalty.

On Sunday June 29, there will be a car boot in the Canal Basin from 10am, and at 2pm the Rose Queen royalty will be attending the Wells Dressing service.

Monday June 30 sees the 2008 royalty visit Cromford Court sheltered accommodation for the elderly, before attending a barbecue at the Dog and Partridge pub in Bridgemont. Joining them there will be Chapel-en-le-Frith Morris Dancers.

On Wednesday July 2, the Rose Queen Festival will be holding its annual Pet Show in the Canal Basin.

And to round of the week's events, the Rose Queen royalty will be attending the Sunday service at the Uniting Church in Whaley Bridge on Sunday July 6.

Queens Secretary Claire Walker said: "The committee would like to urge all residents of the town to get involved in the procession, whether on a local float or as fancy dress.

"The carnival parade would be nothing without the support of local groups and clubs, and with everyone joining in, this year's parade could be bigger and better than ever before."
