PREMIER Division leaders Kendal Town lost their unbeaten record in midweek despite twice fighting back to level terms at Ossett Town and as a result saw their lead cut to a single point as second place Stocksbridge PS continued to enjoy themselves at home with a 4-2 win over Marine.
That took the "Steels" goal tally at Bracken Moor to an impressive nineteen in four games but North Ferriby United would have been level with them but for twice letting the lead slip at Kings Lynn who have yet to win at home after three attempts.
Also looking for a first home win after three league games are Boston United who were held again this time by Matlock Town and the "Pilgrims" stay fifth just behind Ashton United who must wish they could replicate their 100 per cent away form at home where they were held by 6th place Burscough who still have to win on their travels. Retford United, in seventh place, lost their 100 per cent away record when drawing 3-3 at Worksop Town who have now drawn six of their seven games. FC United of Manchester are one of five teams on eleven points but they needed an equaliser six minutes in to stoppage time to deny Whitby Town the spoils whilst Hucknall Town joined the "Reds" on the eleven point mark after beating Buxton 3-1. Bottom club Durham City led at the interval against Frickley Athletic but the latter fought back to win and lifted themselves from next to bottom with the win.
Curzon Ashton maintained their 100% away record with a narrow 1-0 win at Prescot Cables who had been unbeaten at home to go joint top of the First Division North with FC Halifax Town who were absent on FA Cup duty. Colwyn Bay also inflicted a first home defeat of the campaign by the same score on Skelmersdale United to go third ahead of Leigh Genesis who dropped points in a draw at Mossley who are still searching for a home win. The one other game in this Division saw Trafford keep their unbeaten home record intact with a 5-2 win over Ossett Albion thanks to a Scott Barlow hat-trick.
First Division South leaders Leek Town lost their 100 per cent away record when a stoppage time equaliser gave Shepshed Dynamo yet another draw – their fifth of the season and they are now only four points clear of Belper Town who have a game in hand. The "Nailers" came from behind at Goole AFC who lost their manager in midweek to take the points and climb six places in to second a point ahead of Kidsgrove Athletic, Rushall Olympic and Market Drayton Town all of whom were involved on FA Cup business. Also on twelve points with the three FA Cup contestants are Witton Albion after hitting five at home against Willenhall Town who are still trying to move out of negative territory. Chasetown could have joined Belper in joint second but were held to a goalless home draw by Stamford whilst Grantham Town secured their first home points with a 2-0 defeat of Spalding United.
In the FA Cup, of the ten Premier Division sides facing outside opposition only Kings Lynn lost although both Matlock Town and Durham City face replays. Kendal Town blasted nine past Guisborough Town whilst both Bradford Park Avenue and Hucknall Town notched up four. The top tier didn't have things all their own way, however, in the ties against First Division opposition with Nantwich Town going down at Warrington Town and Marine even more surprisingly losing at the lower tier's bottom club Salford City who have yet to take a point in the First Division North whilst Lincoln United, still to win in the First Division South, held Retford United who are unbeaten in the top flight. In the all First Division North ties AFC Fylde and Radcliffe Borough came out on top against Rossendale United and Woodley Sports respectively whilst in the First Division South ties Carlton Town and Mickleover Sports won on their travels at Glapwell and Quorn.
