A minute's silence was held before the game in memory of former club secretary Ron Malpass who died last week.
Wet and windy conditions made smooth, passing football quite difficult and Buxton were still very much a depleted squad with injuries to
Scott Maxfield, Nathan James, Steve Brodie, Niall O' Brien and Gav Knight still suspended. Kris Matthews, on loan from Eastwood Town for a month, played the full 90 minutes on his Buxton debut.
The best chance of the game came on 75 minutes when Leigh's Jordan Stepien stepped up to the spot after Matt Berkeley had been brought down by Scott Hartley. The resulting spot kick was superbly saved by Hartley to keep both teams on a level pegging. With 22 minutes on the clock, Michael Towey's shot sliced through the Leigh defence only to be blocked by visiting keeper Steve Dickinson.
Buxton were awarded a free kick just before half time but James Turley's shot was safely punched away by Dickinson.
The second period brought much the same with no real chances until the penalty was awarded against Buxton who have Scott Hartley to thank for ensuring they picked up an important point.
