Buxton 3 Whitby Town 0

THREE second half goals secured Buxton's Unibond Premier League status after they beat fellow strugglers Whitby Town on Saturday.
After a dull first half in which neither side had a real chance, the Bucks returned after the break looking much more lively and it didn't take them long to open the scoring.

Mark Reed added to his impressive tally of seven goals in three games by netting Buxton's first goal on 52 minutes.

Whitby's Kevin Burgess made a mess of a clearance in his area only to leave the ball at the feet of Reed who fired past Nick Liversedge.

Gav Knight then had a decent chance to double the lead six minutes later but just couldn't capitalise. With 69 minutes on the clock, Reed almost grabbed his second of the afternoon with a well-struck cross into the box, which forced Liversedge to tip the ball over the bar.

The home side did extend their lead not long after though when Reed beat his marker, and the offside trap, before slotting the ball home on 73 minutes.

An excellent long range shot by Gav Knight hit the post on 75 minutes before Danny Reet tapped the third goal home on 84 minutes.

Earlier on, in the first period, chances had been few and far between for both teams. Gav Knight found himself in space on a couple of occasions but was closed down before he could muster a shot.

Then with only seven minutes of the first half remaining, Mark Reed found himself in front of goal but struck the ball wrong and sent it wide.

At the other end, Scott Hartley barely had any work to do as Whitby failed to trouble throughout with only a couple of half chances.

BUXTON: Hartley, Bowker, Ridley, Agus, Anderson, Stevens (Moseley), Maxfield, Towey, Reed (Wood), Knight, Turley (Reet). Attendance: 462.
