SHREWSBURY Town offer a real test of Buxton's credentials when they visit The Silverlands next Tuesday.
Already, Town are pencilled in amongst the favourites for promotion in Division Two and manager Paul Simpson – pictured right – has the club on a roll because they beat first division Blackpool 2-0 in their most recent friendly.

Before next Tuesday's encounter – kick off 7:30pm – Simpson said: "I am very pleased with the football we are playing at the moment – I am just hoping that we don't peak too early.

"It was a strong Blackpool side we beat though it is fair to say they had a few injuries."

Buxton warned up for the encounter with the league side by defeating Parkgate 4-1 away from home last weekend, with assistant boss Clive Freeman in charge of the team.

Gavin Knight and Mark Balfe shot Buxton into a two goal lead before the hosts pulled one back just before the break.

But further goals from Balfe and Mark Hume wrapped up the scoring.

Preparations are well advanced for the club's annual Golf Day on Thursday August 21 to be staged at Buxton and High Peak Golf Club.

Rounds are still available for teams of four and bookings can be made directly with the golf club.

* Buxton FC are also looking for mascots for their home games this season and anyone interested should contact John Nadin on 01298 24146.
