BUXTON boss John Reed has said his players didn't deserve to get paid after their performance in Saturday's 4-2 defeat at North Ferriby United.
The team were four goals down with 70 minutes on the clock and Reed was less than happy with his players efforts.

"I would say it was the poorest performance I've seen from the team since I came to the club. It was absolutely atrocious. We had a lack of heart, a lack of desire, we couldn't pass the ball and we defended shockingly.

"We conceded three goals out of the four which we should definitely not have conceded. It was a really bad day for us and even more disappointing on the back of two wins.

"We expected to get a good result but everything that you have to do to win a football match, we didn't do.

"I was very, very disappointed and even said to the players that if they had any pride they shouldn't take their money for that because they don't deserve to be paid on the strength of that performance.

"There were only four out of the 11 players who I would say played well and can hold their heads up high.

"In my opinion, it was there for the taking. If we had played anything like we can play we would have come back with three points.

"I feel sorry for the fans who made the journey up there."

He added: "I've told the players exactly what I thought about them and that basically I'm giving them two weeks to get themselves straight or I will be bringing new blood in. I have not got from the players what I expected but there is no one else other than myself to blame, I brought them in.

"At the end of the day the players who have been brought in have not performed to the level expected.

"Every game is difficult if you don't have all the qualities you need to win football matches, if the people up front don't have enough, if you don't defend. We defended like schoolboys.

"Their goals on Saturday were unbelievable. They were just really rubbish goals we conceded. Three out of the four goals should have been dealt with. They were school boys errors, players not concentrating. I don't even know how they managed to score the second goal from 35 yards out.

"We were four nil down with 15 minutes to go and scored two but the referee robbed us of a clear cut penalty when Reuben (Wiggins-Thomas) was brought down in the penalty area. "Why we had to wait until we were four nil down to start playing football I don't know.

"Now we need local people to still get behind us. I know its difficult when you've travelled all that way and seen a performance of that kind but there is still a long hard slog ahead of us."We've got a massive game on Saturday in the Cup."

This weekend sees Buxton entertain Blue Square North side Burscough in the FA Cup second qualifying round at the Silverlands, kick off 3pm.The Bucks defeated Merseysiders Bootle 3-1 two weeks ago to set up the tie and earn themselves £3,000 in prize money. With £4,500 on offer to the winner of Saturday's tie, Reed knows its an important game for his club.
"I'm optimistic," he said. "I sent Terry Bowker to watch them on Saturday because he was injured and they lost two nil at home to Gainsborough.

"Terry said if we play like we can, then we are capable of beating them. I am optimistic about it. This is a great opportunity to progress."

Reed will be without the club's top scorer Gav Knight for the Cup match as he serves a 21 day ban. The punishment was imposed after Knight gave a referee a false name in a six-a-side match during the summer.
"He will be a big, big loss for us," said Reed. "Gav has been a massive player for us and a great signing."

The gap in the team is set to be filled by last season's top scorer Jason Bradley, who has rejoined the Bucks on a month's loan.

Bradley, who spent a large part of last season on loan to the Bucks, recently joined Darlington FC after being released by Sheffield Wednesday over the summer.

He made his first appearance as a substitute at North Ferriby on Saturday, replacing the injured Nathan James.
