Buxton 1st XI sank to the bottom of the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League Division One on Saturday following a 67-run defeat at the hands of Chapel-en-le-Frith at The Park.

Chasing 214 for victory, the Bucks lost wickets at regular intervals, despite eight batsmen reaching double figures. Tom Forder top-scored with 28.

Earlier, the home side managed only to take four wickets, as Chapel reached 213 from their 45 overs thanks to Jim Hawtin (71) and Mike Edwards (43 not out). Mark Hill (2-47) was the pick of the Buxton attack.

And on Sunday, Buxton’s weekend of misery continued as they were knocked out of the Bissenden Cup at the quarter-final stage by New Mills.

Buxton now need to pick themselves up for the visit of Newton to The Park on Saturday.
