Tough opposition for Sheen teams

THE SHEEN men's and ladies teams will be competing at the Tug of War Association's national outdoor tug of war championships in Blandford in Dorset this weekend – and both have high hopes of success.

The Tug of War Association's National Championships is one of the highlights of the domestic tug of war calendar.

Sheen Ladies will be going to the event with one eye on defending the 520 kilos and 560 kilos ladies titles which they won in 2008, but have spent most of this season concentrating on the World Games, where they will be representing Great Britain in the ladies 520 kilos indoor competition next month.

This requires a totally different technique.

The Sheen men's team will go into the event with high hopes of reaching the finals in the men's catchweight and 720 kilos event, and they look on course to do this, but face tough opposition for the gold medals as they will be up against defending champions Bosley from Cheshire.

The team hopes to win the gold medal in the 720 kilos weight class for the first time since 1984, ending a 25-year wait for the title.

The teams weigh-in for the event on Friday evening, before competing on Saturday. The competitions start at 10am.
