WHEN it comes to improving the playing experience for its cricketers, Disley CC have got it covered.
The Meller Bragins League club, which plays its home fixtures at Disley Amalgamated Sports Club, is boasting new wicket covers thanks to a successful fundraising campaign to raise the £4,000-plus required.
In addition to funding from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the club’s members amassed £2,198 by scaling the height of Kilimanjaro - a mammoth 19,341 feet - on a ten-metre high local climbing wall in April.
And an additional grant of over £5,000 has now been awarded by Sport England to cover the cost of a new heavy roller.
Secretary of Disley Cricket Club, Stewart Reynolds, said: “We are a club on the up, and this new equipment certainly will go a long way to improving playing conditions.
“We purchased the new covers at the start of the season and they have already had a big impact, as only around five of our first XI matches have had to be abandoned due to the weather. Without the covers, the number would have been much higher.”
The club is currently on the look-out for new members and backroom staff of all ages.
