Swimmers enjoy regional success

FOUR swimmers from Buxton Swimming Club competed in the Midland Regional Swimming Championships in Coventry.

With exceptionally tough qualifying times needed to enter, the swimmers did well.

Emily Allsopp swam in the Youth Championships, making several finals and going on to win a bronze medal in the 15 years' 200m backstroke. Emily's time qualified her for the National Swimming Championships in July.

Competing in the 12 years age group were Lucy Wood and Emma Longden.

Emma, qualifying for the first time at these championships, achieved a personal best time in her favoured event of 100m freestyle.

Lucy qualified for eight events, with her best result coming in the 200m backstroke where she came a creditable fourth, narrowly missing out on a medal and a National Qualifying time.

Abbie Wood, competing in her first regional championships in the ten-years' age group, produced some outstanding swimming to gain personal best times in every event she took part in.

She made three finals, achieving two fourth places, but the highlight of her achievements was a gold medal in an exciting and hard fought 200m breaststroke final.

Buxton Swimming Club caters for swimmers of all abilities. If you are interested in joining, visit www.buxtonswimming club.co.uk.
