Rugby Union: Hard-fought win as Bucks stay fifth

Buxton RUFC secured a 23-18 win away at Ellesmere Port last Saturday to remain fifth in the table.

The home side struggled to cope with Buxton’s power and the Bucks were soon awarded a penalty, which Terry Summerfield converted to make it 3-0.

Straight from the restart Ellesmere fought back and were awarded a penalty of their own which levelled up the scores.

Soon after Ian Scott crashed over for the first try of the afternoon before Summerfield added the extras.

The next 15 minutes though saw Ellesmere grab two quickfire tries after sloppy passing from the away side.

Buxton soon bounced back, and went on the rampage again, with Summerfield kicking a penalty to ensure Bucks went in at the break at 13-14.

They then took the lead after the interval after Summerfield opted for a kick after Ellesmere were caught offside.

The lead swung back to the home side’s advantage soon after, but the visitors never gave up and a good move culminated with Chris Thyer scoring the final try of the match.

Skipper Summerfield once again added the extra two points to secure a hard-fought away victory. Buxton host Helsby this Saturday.
