Tough-tackling Tideswell rugby union ace Matthew Peakman is celebrating after being selected to represent the North of England.
Matthew, a pupil at The King’s School in Macclesfield, has earned plaudits from selectors after a series of impressive performances in the past year.
He is already in the Sale RUFC Elite Player Development Group and now he is the latest rugby star to emerge from the school’s successful production line.
Hooker Tommy Taylor, a former pupil at King’s, has been at professional level with Sale Sharks since 2011.
Matthew insists he is determined to go as far as possible and perhaps emulate 22-year-old Taylor’s achievements.
He said: “I am very committed to my rugby, and want to try my hardest to see just how far I can go.”
King’s Head of Rugby Guy Mason says that Matthew will be under no illusions as to the size of the task ahead.
He said: “Matthew knows that to make it in the professional game you must combine talent, physical prowess and sheer hard work.
“Working with us at King’s and the top coaches at Sale, he will be made fully aware just how competitive the sport is at the highest level.”
