Hope Valley 1st XV 13, Glossop 3rd XV 8

CHAMPIONS Hope Valley kept this season’s unbeaten home record intact with a hard-fought 13-8 win over Glossop.

The Valley pack were dominant in the set piece, with Bines and Tracey gaining ground in the loose. Evans tackled strongly, and Sampson took good line-out ball.

After Moseley and a Glossop prop were sent to the sidelines for ten minutes, the visitors kicked a penalty and, with uncontested scrums following the sin-binning, a Valley knock-on created an opportunity out wide for an unconverted try.

Valley launched further attacks through Bines and Elliott, while a drop goal attempt from McGuigan went wide.

After the break, a great catch and drive from Spencer saw Hope attack, with good runs from Elliott and Woodhouse, and strong driving from Ryder. Allen came on following an injury to Bines, and stole the ball in the loose to set up another attack.

Glossop were penalised and Valley continued attacking, with Edge replacing Evans in the centres. The hard work by the backs finally paid off with Booth taking the ball at pace and breaking through Glossop to score, converted by McGuigan. More pressure resulted in a penalty, which McGuigan scored to put Hope Valley 10-8 in front.

Then a great rolling maul surged deep into the visitor’s half, and a Glossop player was red-carded, with McGuigan kicking the penalty.
