Buxton Rugby Club claimed an early cup final appearance with a convincing Derbyshire Cup win over league rivals Tupton 58-14 at Sunnyfields.
Buxton dominated proceedings from the fifth minute when full back Mellor went over in the corner for the first of what turned out to be a five-try haul on the day.
Buxton’s pacey back line caused problems for the less mobile Tupton all afternoon with numerous line breaks giving scoring opportunities in both halves which the Stags capitalised on at will.
The forwards chipped in as Tupton tired with Waine bagging a brace from No.8 and Cauthorn from a driving maul late on.
Director of rugby Karl de Groot said: “We are pleased with the result, it’s a great boost for the lads to get an early cup final appearance on the board.
“We had some exceptional individual performances on the day. The challenge now is to raise our overall team performances to the same level. If we can do that we will be difficult to contend with as the season progresses.”
