Buxton 1st XV 13, Linley 1st XV 11
BUXTON completed the double over Linley.
The hosts had the upper hand in the scrummage, with skipper Scrimshaw, Meek and Chapman bossing the encounter. Campbell at scrum half had chances for some ball poaching.
Storer and Edge were a menace in broken play, with Scott DeGroot and Hodgson doing the hard stuff.
Despite this, Linley slotted a penalty, shortly followed by an unconverted try.
Immediately from the kick-off, Scott gathered and set off, he slipped the ball to Bennison, then to Austin who found DeGroot in support.
He outpaced the defence to score under the posts. Waters converted.
The scourge of the first half returned with Buxton giving away penalties, allowing Linley to stretch their lead.
Holliday, Robinson and Ford turned the tide with some direct running deep into Linley’s defence. Robinson received a clothes-line tackle resulting in a Linley yellow card.
With good field position, a kick was elected. Waters obliged bringing the Bucks within striking distance.
Replacements Jackson, Meir and Kirten made an immediate impact. Good ball stealing and direct hard running gave Buxton another chance at goal.
With five minutes remaining Waters gave Buxton the lead, but Scott received a yellow card after getting embroiled in some handbags and Linley went on the offensive, requiring some stout defending and big hits to keep them out.
Buxton deserved the win, which could have been more.
