A new rugby league side, based out of Buxton, is set to be formed in time for the start of next season, the Advertiser understands.
The club, to be named Buxton Rugby League Football Club, has been registered but negotiations are still at an early stage.
However, contrary to previous reports the new club is not thought to be associated with the now-disbanded Hope Valley Hawks.
Hawks, who were based out of Castleton, disbanded at the end of last season.
Last weekend, Hope Valley Hawks tweeted from their account: “This will be our final tweet ever. Massive thanks for all your support. Please all get following @BUXTONRLFC - exciting times ahead for this club.”
Those involved with the set-up of the new club are set to meet in the new year to discuss the next stage.
