Mancunians 10, Hope Valley Hawks 52

HOPE Valley Hawks travelled to Broughton Park for their first rugby league game of the season against Mancunians.

The Hawks looked sharp from the off, and from the first couple of plays gained good ground, with skipper Shires getting the first score, converted by McGuigan. Then the ball was worked out wide down the back line for Brocklehurst to make it 10-0.

Shires was in imperious form and dived over for his second from close range.

The backs were not to be outdone, and another flowing move saw Bagshawe break through and score under the posts, converting his own try.

After the break, the hosts conceded an early penalty, and more Hawks pressure saw Bagshawe score again. Then a good break by Evans saw Spencer gain more yardage, with Shires on hand to complete the move and seal his hat trick, converted by Bagshawe to make it 30-0.

Another hosts attack was halted by a crunching tackle from Wiseman, as Mancunians continued to keep their heads up.

Eventually they scored a converted try, before capitalising on an error to get their second score of the afternoon.

A good move from McGuigan and Williams allowed Evans to break through and score, with Bagshawe converting.

Bagshawe was not to be outdone, and scored and converted the next to get another Hawks hat-trick.

A good run from Buckler set up McGuigan who stepped through to score and convert, and then Hunter made further good ground in an impressive display, Buckler again turning provider for Evans to score his second and complete the scoring. Man of the Match: Ethan Bagshawe.
