OVER 60 riders braved tricky ground conditions during Staffordshire Moorlands Motorcycle Club’s November Trial.

Overnight rain had caused the level of water in the stream at Manor Steps to rise by a foot overnight, but rapid action by club members to reset a makeshift course enabled the event to continue.

The story of the trial was a family one, with father and son Matt and Richard Timperley, from Dronfield, winning the Experts and 50/50 classes. Chris Gascoigne headed up the Clubmen.

Richard, runner-up in the British Expert Championship, showed his skills by beating Roman Kyrnyckyj and Tom Yeomans by 15 marks.

Section six, consisting of large boulders hiding under a raging torrent, was where most of the marks were lost. Richard was the only rider not to drop points in the section.

Matt was the victor on the 50/50 route, but the margin was much closer than his son enjoyed. Mark finished just three marks ahead of Richard Moakes and Mike Edwards, with Steve Clift a further three marks adrift in fourth.

The Clubmans’ competition was a one-horse race with Gascoigne easily heading the standings, nine marks ahead of Grant Beech who, in turn, was nine marks clear of Mr Cripps and Ashley Wall.
