Heavy defeat for depleted Seconds

ENER-G Hockey League

Sikh Union 2nd XI 7, Buxton 2nd XI 0

A DEPLETED Buxton side, in their last league match before Christmas, suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of their more experienced Coventry opponents on Saturday.

Three goals down at half-time, the Bucks recovered and produced their best hockey of the game, with better passing and more possession as they sought about reducing the deficit.

But in a purple spell for Sikh Union, the home side devastated the Buxton team by slamming in four more goals in the last ten minutes.

The defence, particularly Drennan, did play well for most of the game, with goalkeeper Balderstone making several good saves, and though the midfield and forwards made many fine runs, they couldn’t keep possession.

Buxton had two short corners without success and Sikh Union scored from the third of theirs, following a pass and hard slap shot into the far corner of the goal.

The best goal of the season so far was in the last minute from a Sikh Union attack down the right wing; a quick pass into the back of the D and a Coventry forward, 15 yards from goal, swept the ball into the top corner of the net.

Buxton: D Balderstone(GK), M Hambleton, M Lomas, A Drennan, D Robins, S Meaton, P Heathcote, J Sewell, J Lomas, S Longden, A Talbot. Umpire: P Danson.
