Golf ace Ben claims trophy
HE MAY still be only 12-years-old, but Ben Higgins is quickly making a name for himself on the local golfing scene.
Ben, a junior member at Cavendish Golf Club, has just won one of the club's major competitions.
He was presented with the Devonshire Trophy after his performance in the 18-hole medal competition on Saturday May 30, recording a winning score of 82-17-65. And the young golfer has also managed to reduce his handicap, down from 17 to just 12.
Robert Forder, Director of Golf at Cavendish GC, said: "Ben is the son of Mike Higgins, who played in the Open Championship at Troon some 27 years ago, and clearly he has the potential to achieve great things.
"It is very rare for a golfer this young to win a major club competition, especially as you have to have a handicap of 18 or less in order to enter!"
The Scratch Prize competition was won by new club member Mark Gayes.
Mark, who's winning score was 70-68-138, is a +2 golfer who now plays for Derbyshire.
He has an impressive 5.5 wins out six in the matches he has played for the county this year.
