New Mills pulled off a surprise win against First Division leaders Hawk Green in the semi-finals of the Bissenden Cup.
After a solid, if not spectacular, partnership from the Hawk Green openers, Jordan Henderson made 54 and Elliott Young 33 to give the innings a platform from which to build their total.
Josh Stevens, with two impressive spells of bowling, left the field with 3-22.
New Mills’ reply started equally slowly with number three Malc Strong hitting a patient 63 and Ben Boardman 31, before both were out in the last ten overs.
This brought Michael Birchenall to the crease, and he struck some mighty blows to leave the visitors needing 25 off the last two overs.
Birchenall then struck a couple of sixes in the penultimate over and with two further fours in the final over, the total reached 180-6 to secure a four-wicket win and a big cup upset.
In a thrilling match at Hayfield, Dinting batted first and posted a commanding 249.
With Hayfield needing six from the final ball after a fine run chase, Dinting eventually held on to win by a solitary run.
In the Hawke Trophy semi-finals, Woodley were asked to bat first at home by visitors Old Glossop and posted 127 all out with Graeme Parry top scoring with 38.
Old Glossop’s T Wright took 4-35 with the ball.
The visitors then concluded a tense run chase with just seven balls to spare as they closed on 128-6, with S James hitting 37.
Old Glossop will have a “home” final having been chosen to host the event.
In the other semi-final, Broadbottom were bowled out for 123 at New Mills, C Mills taking 3-20 and U Ali 4-15. In response, D Coverley hit 64 as the home side won by five wickets to ensure both the first and seconds are on for a cup double.
