Hawke Trophy Final: Woodley 2nd XI 170-7, Mottram 2nd XI 170-6
MOTTRAM claimed the Hawke Trophy in thrilling fashion at Dove Holes CC on Sunday.
Both sides scored 170 in their innings, but Mottram lifted the cup by virtue of having lost fewer wickets.
After a delayed start due to torrential rain, Mottram won the toss and elected to field first in a match reduced to 35 overs per side.
Woodley lost their third wicket with the score on 37 and a low total was looking possible, however Graham Parry scored 23 at the top of the order, and a late flurry of boundaries from R Billinge (41) and A Rippon (21) meant Woodley completed their innings to set a challenging 171 to win.
Star of the Mottram bowling was Oliver Andrew, who finished with figures of 3-22 from his seven overs.
Mottram’s reply began slowly, losing an early wicket in the process, but with the required run rate approaching eight Oliver Andrew (67) guided his side to the finish line before perishing in the final over with four runs still required for victory. It was then left to H Moore to bring the scores level and cap a thrilling finish.
Andrew collected the man of the match award for a fine all-round performance, in a game played in terrific spirit by both sides.
