BUXTON-BASED darts player Dean Winstanley has climbed the order of merit after competing in the first PDC European Tour event in Austria.
The three-day ‘tour’ event was played in a large venue and on a massive stage, with a £15,000 top prize on offer for the winner.
Winstanley successfully negotiated a tough first round draw against ‘The Asset’ Paul Nicholson, winning 6-3.
He fought back from 5-3 down to beat Jim Walker 6-5 in round two.
The standard of darts was very high, the longest leg being 17 darts, with several 12-darters. Walker hit two 180s in two of the legs, but Winstanley won the last three legs with 15, 14 and 14 darts.
It was a different story in round three against Richie Burnett, who defeated Winstanley 6-3 with an average of over 97.
Overall, Winstanley added £1,500 to his ranking as a result of his performance in Austria.
