Winstanley battles back in European Tour event

PDC darts professional Dean Winstanley moved a step closer to qualifying for next month’s World Matchplay following his performance in the second European Tour event of the season in Berlin.

Winstanley has made an encouraging start to his European campaign, qualifying for the first three of the year, each with a top-prize on £15,000.

And he picked up a first-round win, and added £1,000 into the rankings pot, on the Friday afternoon against a real mainstay of the PDC Tour, the hugely experienced Mark Walsh. Winstanley averaged just over 97.3 as he fought back from 5-2 down to win 6-5.

There was no repeat success in round two, as Winstanley narrowly lost 6-5 to Michael Mansell.
