Winds can’t stop remarkable scores

Cavendish Captain Peter Lowe held his Captain’s Day on June 30.

Despite a day of high winds and then torrential donwpours, there was some remarkable scoring.

Winner of the Captain’s Prize was Paul Holbrow, 74-12=62. In second place was Mike Oakes, 83-20=63; and third was Chris Thyer, 73-7=67.

Fourth and fifth places went to juniors, Connor Barker, 84-17=67; and Matt Lomas, 74-7=67. Best gross went to another junior, Ben Higgins, with a superb 69.

The Seniors Club Championship was held earlier in the month and this was won by Keith Thomas, 88-25=63. In a tight finish with John Robinson, 81-18=63. Third and fourth were Brian Doig, 82-17=65 and Ken Bailey, 84-18=66. Best over 70s was captured by veteran George Dalton with an excellent 91-25=66.

Steve Hunter won the Basil Darbyshire 7 Club Stableford with 41 points. Runner-up was Mick McDonald, 40, and third was Malc Pritchard, 38.

Father and daughter combination of Andy and Kim Bradbury ran away with the Bridget Newell Mixed Open Betterball with a terrific 46 points.

They were clear of G and M Kershaw (visitors) 42 points, and third I Menzies (Wilmslow) and T Danesvich (Shrigley Hall) 39.
