ENER-G Hockey League East Midlands 2

Buxton 1st XI 5, Kettering 0

Buxton turned in an assured performance to run in five goals without reply against an under-strength Kettering side.

Buxton called up D Pathe from the second team into the centre of midfield to replace the injured J Wilton, who had sustained a groin injury.

Other than that it was pretty much the same free-scoring side which had battered Long Buckby in their previous game.

The goals soon came, Orritt grabbing another hat-trick.

The first goal, however, went to his strike partner Browett, supplied by Orritt, after a long ball by Mather found its way into the box.

Orritt then increased the lead, rounding keeper M Gee before slotting into an empty net.

He got Buxton’s third before half time, lobbing the keeper from the edge of the ‘D’.

Buxton kept hold of possession in the second half, getting their opponents to tire while chasing the ball.

Lowton got his second goal in two games from a well-rehearsed short corner routine, before Orritt completed his hat-trick with the faintest of touches off a Lowton hit into the ‘D’.

Six points from two matches catapults Buxton into the top four.

Buxton: D Balderstone (GK), D Bedworth, D Pathe, W Mather, P Jones, S Meaton, D Lowton, J Wilton, M Curzon, B Meaton, W Orritt, P Browett. Man of the match: D Pathe.
