Buxton AC’s Festive Gardens 5K, the popular monthly race held around Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens, attracted 70 runners last week in what was the final event of the year.

In perfect running conditions, Rob White stole the plaudits as he broke 17 minutes - a personal best for him at the distance.

White recorded a time of 16.59 to follow his club championship award at the club’s recent presentation night.

Second home was Malcolm Johnson (Stockport Harriers) in 17.33, while Andy Whittingham (Wilmslow) finished third in 17.50.

The first female home was Nicki Dick from Matlock with a time of 21.03 (1st over-50 female), whilst second home was Buxton member Jo Bednall in 21.40.

Buxton AC junior member Elliot Meylan ran strongly to finish seventh overall, in 19.26.

Meanwhile, several Club Members travelled over to North Wales recently to compete in the popular Conwy half marathon.

Leading her fellow team members home, Ros Barrett had a fine run to finish in 1.43.24, followed by Simon Moorhouse 1.48.35, Steve Radcliffe 1.54.28, Hayley Errington 2.12.02 and Allan Ramsay 2.12.54.

Barrett maintained her form on the fells last weekend, claiming the first female over-50 prize in the popular Christmas Cracker eight-mile fell race held out of Tittesworth.

Ros was also part of the winning Ladies’ team, leading home Sheila Bradley and Gayle Johnson in the event, with finishing positions of 60, 63 and 65 respectively.
