Steve Watson continued his dominance of Buxton and District Athletic Club’s monthly Pavilion Gardens 5K runs.

Watson came home once again in first position, in a time of 17 minutes and 27 seconds.

Kath Lamplough, running the event for the first time, was the leading lady in 19.47, while Jacob Buckley held off fellow team-mate Will Tighe to secure the first junior place in a time of 20.56.

This month’s event was to raise funds for Comic Relief and generous donations were made in return for homemade cakes and coffee, raising an amazing total of £147 towards the charity.

The following day, 5K organizer Sheila Bradley travelled to Partington in Cheshire to compete in the Trafford 10K road race.

From a classy field, Richard Weir, of Derby AC, was the eventual winner in an excellent time of 29 minutes and 50 seconds.

Bradley finished as the second over-55 lady in a time of 45.24, while Emma Havenhand took part in the Sheffield Hallam 5K Parkrun on Saturday and recorded a time of 23.59.

Three Buxton and District AC athletes represented Derbyshire at the Intercounties Cross Country held in Birmingham at the weekend. Rachel Chatwin competed in the senior ladies’ race, while Elliot Meylan took part in the under-13 boys’ race, and Hannah Baker ran in the under-13 girls’ event.
