BUXTON Rugby Club has been praised for helping stage last weekend’s National Outdoor Tug of War Championships.
Teams from across England took part in the competition at Sunnyfields on Saturday, bidding to become English national tug of war champions.
There was local success for Sheen Mens and Ladies teams. The men secured the catchweight and 700 kilos titles, while the ladies triumphed in the 540 kilos category.
“We thought that despite the weather, the event went well,” commented Tug of War Association spokesman Alan Knott.
“The weather seemed to put off a number of spectators on the day, but a good crowd still attended, and the teams put on a good display for those that braved the wet weather to come and support us.”
Thanking Buxton Rugby Club and Sheen Tug of War Club for helping stage the event, he added: “This is the second time in three years that we have held our national championships in the area, and we have again been made to feel very welcome. There is no doubt that we will return at some stage again in the future.”
