Top-20 finish for Hawkins

BUXTON & District Athletic Club runner Darran Hawkins was first home for his team in the Famous Grouse five-mile fell race. Held out of Birch Vale, the race completes a circuit around the Ollerset Moors.

Hawkins came home in 16th place, followed by Mark Halsey (37th), Dave Forshaw (70th) and Frank Golden (100th).

Former Buxton AC runners Rick Houghton (Macclesfield Harriers) and Colin Wilshaw (Pennine) finished fifth and 47th respectively.

At the annual Cheddleton Xmas Pudding 10K road race, from a field of 350 runners, Buxton’s sole competitor was Sarah Guise who ran a personal best for the distance in 52:27, gaining 192nd position. Ex-Buxton runner Paul Drabble (Staffordshire Moorlands) finished in 23rd place in 39:22.

In the junior event, Will Tighe finished an excellent fifth, with Elliot Meylan in 20th place.
