Thyer stars with world-class saves

Buxton continued their good start to the season against the undefeated Panthers.

he hosts took control of possession early on but came up against an excellent Buxton defence and an outstanding goalkeeper in Thyer, who made several world-class saves.

The first chance came to Buxton as Wilton threaded the ball through to Curzon, who beat a defender before crossing for Browett to shoot narrowly wide.

Buxton continued to soak up the pressure and played a superb counter-attacking game, with Curzon, Meaton and Saunders offering support through the wings.

Midway through the half Griffin played a superb ball into Browett, who crossed for Meaton to open the scoring with an unstoppable shot

This invoked an immediate response from the Panthers, but the defence of Bedworth, Jones, Lomas and Mather held strong, with Thyer making a superb diving save after the ball had taken a deflection.

In the second half, the midfield duo of Wilton and Griffin continued to impress. Buxton’s second goal came from another swift counter attack.

The ball was moved to Orritt who, after beating his man with a superb solo run, passed into Browett who smashed the ball into the net.

Three more superb saves from Thyer confirmed victory and a clean sheet, and wing wizard Curzon could have added a late third with a dazzling run which beat three defenders but was stopped by a superb save by the goalkeeper.
