The Cross Country season began for Buxton AC with a total of 25 athletes taking part in the North Staffordshire Cross Country League at Winsford.

The leading performer in the boys was James Tighe, who posted an 11th-placed finish in a field of 59 in the under-11s race.

In the Senior Women’s race, Rachel Chatwin led the newly-promoted team home in 13th place featuring 174 runners.

In the Senior Men, Rob White starred in 12th place amongst 256 competitors, with Steve Watson (first over-50) in 31st place.

Elsewhere, five Buxton road-runners competed in the English half marathon at Warrington, with several posting PB performances.

Of 2,057 finishers, Sol Clark came a superb 14th with a fabulous time of 1:20:52.

Jon Sewell was 71st, Mark Quince 117th, Amy Wadsworth 1,181st and Sarah Sewell 1,276th.

As the summer fell running season drew to a close, at the historic Lantern Pike race held from Little Hayfield, Richard Bouglas finished in 63rd place out of 196 runners.

He was followed by Pete Bailey in 72nd, Jo Bednall in 73rd, Alfie Bailey in 107th and Richard Goff in 138th.

Buxton AC meet twice a week outside the Pavilion Gardens Swimming Pool in the town.
