High Peak’s wheelchair basketball star Maddie Thompson is celebrating after being named in the GB team to compete at the 2014 World Championships.
Maddie was picked as part of 12-strong squad that will compete at the tournament in Toronto, Canada from June 20-28.
GB, who are the current European Bronze Medallists, will head to Toronto at the end of June led by the new coaching duo of Miles Thompson and Mathew Foden.
The team will be looking to improve on their sixth-placed finish at the last World Championships in 2010, which took place in Birmingham.
Miles Thompson said: “At the World Championships we want the team to unite itself and make sure we are all pulling from the same side of the rope in all situations, both on and off the court.
“Our goal is the same as at any tournament we enter as GB and that is to get into the semi-final and take it from there.”
GB will open their Championship campaign in Pool B alongside London 2012 Gold Medallists Germany, Canada, China, Japan, and Brazil.
19-year-old Maddie has experience on the big stage, having helped GB clinch seventh place at the 2012 Paralympics in London.
