Cannock Badgers 3, Buxton Hockey Club Badgers 0
Buxton Badgers travelled to National League club Cannock on Saturday to play the only Buxton hockey of the day.
With a team that included three debutants, the Bucks put in a solid performance against older and more experienced players.
Under-11 youngsters Oscar Tilley and Lewis Jelbert put in great performances on the wings and veteran Dave Forshaw played his first ever game of hockey, supported in midfield by his son Louis.
Buxton spent much of the first half under pressure from a well-drilled team, but solid defending from George Bradbury and Dan Clayton kept them out until Cannock scored from a well-struck short corner.
Cannock scored their second with a good move down the left while Bradbury and Cook were both off the field with injuries.
In the second half, despite Cannock continuing to move the ball well, Buxton looked more assured in midfield with Dave Forshaw and Joe Uprichard frustrating the opposition and giving them little opportunity to enter the D.
Louis Forshaw-Perring was able to play more positively and link with Joe Grindey, who made a number of great runs giving the Bucks hope of a goal, but their closest effort narrowly went wide of the left post.
Pushing forward, Buxton were caught on the break and conceded the only goal of the second half from a well-struck shot at the top of the D.
Buxton: H Hill, G Bradbury, C Clayton, D Clayton, L Forshaw-Perring, J Uprichard, O Tilley, D Forshaw, L Jelbert, A Cook, J Grindey.
