They quickly dispatched of Wales A and then edged a tense decider against England A - represented by Bedford - to take the gold medal.

National champions Norton - a team which featured Buxton resident Eddy Holland - represented England A in the very competitive men’s 600-kilos event.

Norton picked up maximum points in the group stage on their way to facing England B - represented by Sandhurst - in the semi-final. After making light work of their Berkshire rivals, winning by two ends to nil, they defeated Northern Ireland B by a similar scoreline to win the gold medal.

Holland was later called into the England A 680-kilos team which also won gold by defeating Wales A in the final.

Norton will now represent England at the World Outdoor Tug of War Championships in Switzerland in September.
