Buxton Amateur Boxing Club visited Stoke and Ilkeston with boxers Liam Burke and Adam Sircar respectively competing in two senior contests.
First up was Burke, appearing in his second contest at welterweight in Stoke. His home town opponent was well-schooled and gave Burke a torrid first round, coming off better in the majority of the early exchanges.
The tide turned during a second gruelling round as Burke continued his fast pace. This was an even round, but Burke was ascendant as he entered the third round.
The last session proved massive for the Buxton boxer, demonstrating superb fitness. Burke was caught with a heavy upper-cut but stormed the home fighter with groups of unanswered shots, out-working his opponent.
Fitness and strength eventually won through to provide Burke with an excellent points win.
Sircar was in action for the second time in a week and, after bowing out of the under-20 bout novices, looked to get back on track against Ilkeston lightweight Thomas Robinson.
Keeping a high work rate throughout, Sircar was awarded a unanimous points decision.
Both boxers will be in action on November 18 at Buxton Amateur Boxing Club’s open show at the Devonshire Dome.
