Seconds fail to win, but improve on last season

ENER-G Hockey League

Buxton 2nd XI 1

Rolls Royce 2nd XI 1

IN THEIR last league match of the season, with an unusual bare minimum 11 players, Buxton Seconds couldn’t find enough skill or nous to beat a team below them in the table.

The game started off well for the Bucks with some good hockey, and they scored first from a short corner, with Heathcote providing the assist from a GK rebound save, and M Lomas making no mistake with a hit against the backboards from ten metres.

Unfortunately, the home side became overconfident, and within a matter of minutes, just after Longden hit the post, they conceded a silly goal with nearly all the defenders in the opponent’s half.

The second half provided chances for both teams, with Rolls Royce also hitting the upright, but Buxton could not raise their game to win a match for the taking.

On a positive note, the Seconds enjoyed an improvement overall in the season, compared to last year, to finish mid-table.

Buxton: S Thyer, D Robins, M Lomas, J Clayton, D Bedworth, M Hambleton, L Saunders, P Danson, P Heathcote, S Longden, Alan Talbot.

* An under-11 tournament will be held at Buxton on Sunday April 3. Players are asked to report to the astro at 10am.
