Rob on cloud nine after fantastic 
finish in hill race

Buxton and District Athletic Club’s Rob White led home a sizeable local contingent in the Cloud 9 Hill Race near Congleton at the weekend.

White finished in a fantastic 12th place in a time of 1.01.04. He was followed by Mark Pursell (39th in 1.06.06), Don O’Brien (120th in 1.14.31), Pete Bailey (180th in 1.18.51), Frank Golden (187th in 1.19.18), Roland Meylan (210th in 1.20.55), Ian Francis (257th in 1.24.54), Dave Forshaw (265th in 1.25.17), Sarah Guise (315th in 1.30.21), Bev Golden (340th in 1.35.34) and Helen Brunt (347th in 1.35.38). Running for Pennine, Rachel Chatwin came home in 99th place in 1.12.32.

Emma Wentworth ran in the Cheadle five-mile road race, finishing 72nd in 36 minutes and 42 seconds.

Several members ran at the 5K distance at the weekend, with Steve Claye just a second short of his personal best in 21 minutes and 20 seconds at the Marple Parkrun.

Emma Havenhand finished in 24.02 over at the Sheffield Hallam Parkrun, while Jim & Sheila Bradley finished the ‘No Walk in the Park’ event at Chesterfield in 24.57 (first over-70) and 22.55 (second lady and first over-55) respectively.

Paul McWha completed the Isle of Anglesey half marathon in two hours, 13 minutes and four seconds.

The second event in the club’s championships, the Dream-On Mile, was won by Jake Fearn in a time of five minutes and 24 seconds. Rachel Chatwin led the ladies home in 5.58 and Elliot Meylan was the first junior home in 6.05.

The next Pavilion Gardens 5K event takes place on Saturday, starting from Broad Walk at 9am. The free event will be supporting Comic Relief and fancy dress is encouraged.
