The long-awaited thaw arrived just in time for Buxton’s monthly Pavilion Gardens 5K to go ahead last Saturday.

The Valentine’s Day race saw nearly 70 runners turn out for the three-lap course.

At the head of the race there was a fantastic duel between Buxton AC’s own Rob White and Ben Light.

Ben was pipped into second place by just one second, as Rob claimed first place in a time of 17.22.

Ben recorded yet another personal best, as did third placed runner Jason Bennett, who came home in a time of 17.51.

Other top ten finishers for Buxton AC were Steve Watson (Fifth place), Rob Lloyd (Sixth place) and Richard Bouglas (Eighth place).

Richard again demonstrated his current form with another personal best, finishing in 20.03.

The women’s race was dominated by local runner Caroline Pimblett, an ex-Buxton AC member, who took first place in a time of 20.09.

Buxton AC members Lucy Stephenson, Kate Ledin and Emma Havenhand took second, third and fourth places respectively, Lucy with a massive personal best of 23.50.

In the junior race Lauren Wilshaw was first home (24.56), followed in second place by her sister Heather Wilshaw (27.44).

The next Pavilion Gardens 5K will take place on Saturday March 14, free entry.
