A COUNTBACK was required to decide one of Buxton & High Peak Golf Club’s major competitions - the 36-hole Armitt Cup and Scratch Prize - on Sunday.
The close finish saw Mark Redfern and Nick Gould tied on 137 after 36 holes, with Redfern declared the winner on a countback of the final 18 holes.
The results were: 1st, Mark Redfern, 137 (63 back 18); 2nd, Nick Gould, 137 (69 back 18); 3rd, Rick Mycock, 139. Division One: Phil Anderson, 140. Division Two: Mick Plimmer, 140. Division Three: Gareth Ratcliffe, 140.
The winners of the prizes for the best morning and afternoon scores were Alan McEwen (67) and Paul Cheese (67) respectively, while Jacob Bagshaw (142) won the Scratch Prize.
The previous afternoon saw the Gents Invitation competition won by a visiting Leek Westwood pairing of Paul Cheese and Dave Storey with 44 points, ahead of the Cavendish Golf Club pairings of Steve Leigh and Steve Bell (43 points) and Andy Lisser and Nick Barton (39 points).

Gill Morris (79-9-70) won the ladies’ Hargreave Cup, from Sue Hopkins (88-17-71) and Lisa Walker (85-13-72).
