RAIN failed to dampen the spirits of Buxton Community School pupils taking part in their annual sports day.
The keenly-contested event, which was moved indoors due to the wet weather, took place over two days last week, with the heats being held on the Tuesday and the finals taking place on Wednesday.
Split into four teams – north, south, east, west – around 500 pupils competed in traditional athletics events ranging from the high jump to sprints and relay races.
The school’s Director of Sport, Lynne Pope, said: “It is a massive team competition and becomes quite competitive, but the pupils always enjoy themselves. The emphasis was on participation.”
