MEMBERS of the Buxton Hitmen attended an open day at sponsors the University of Derby last weekend to promote the track and speedway in the community.

Hitmen rider Adam Allott attended Saturday’s event with his bike, and visitors were also able to have a go on the gater training machine and learn more about the sport.

l Heavy rain put a stop to the USA invasion that was planned for Sunday at Buxton’s Hi-Edge track.

Promoter Jayne Moss said: “We were really looking forward to welcoming the USA team to show us their format of speedway, however after non-stop rain last week the track was under water and so we made the decision on Saturday afternoon to cancel.

“Unfortunately we will be unable to re-stage the event this year, however we will be in discussions with the USA team to bring the event over here at the start of next season.”

l The final 2011 date in the Hitmen’s calendar is the end-of-season party at the University of Derby’s Buxton campus on Saturday November 12. Tickets, priced £25, are available from Jayne Moss on 07979 640 198.
