MEMBERS of High Peak Triathlon Club were vying for honours in a National Championships race last weekend at Emberton Park, near Milton Keynes.
A competitive field lined-up for the event, which began with an early-morning, mile-long swim in the lake, followed by a swift and undulating 40 kilometre bike leg through the lovely Northamptonshire countryside.
To the frustration of the cyclists, several of the country lanes used for the bike leg were busy with tractors heavily laden with late cut hay, which caused a number of bottlenecks.
There was no such obstruction on the run course, which circled Emberton Park and lake.
Given its flat terrain, this turned out to be a quick circuit and produced some very smart times.
High Peak club member David Davidson, of Great Longstone, managed a podium place in his age group, completing the Olympic-distance in just under two hours and 30 minutes.
