A MEMBER of Cavendish Golf Club has been chosen as this year’s Captain of the Society of Derbyshire Lady Golf Captains.

Pam Brindley, of Hartington Road, Buxton, has been a member of the club for 27 years and was Lady Captain of Cavendish in 1996.

Besides chairing the AGM and committee meetings, Pam’s duties will include arranging three inter-county matches and the annual match against the Society of Derbyshire Golf Captains.

She will also host the Silver Division match against Nottinghamshire in August, and the society’s autumn meeting in September, both at Cavendish Golf Club.

Trish Lardner, from Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club, has been chosen by past lady captains of her club as this year’s Vice Captain of the Society of Derbyshire Lady Golf Captains.

* Cavendish Golf Club ladies played their winter league final on Thursday March 10. The event, played in dreadful weather conditions, was won by Christine Willingham, with 25 points.

Runner-up

She finished ahead of Fil Richards with 23 points, Julia Rowlands and Bridget Watson, both with 22 points.

* Buxton & High Peak Golf Club held a 4BBB Stableford competition on Saturday March 12, with two scores counting on even holes. The winners were Derrick Lambert and Ron Harrison with 64 points, ahead of Paul Waring and Ron Clark with 59 points. In third and fourth place respectively were Russ Howe and Malcolm Cobb with 59 points, and Warren Furness and Matthew Bailey with 58 points.

The following day, Paul Waring and Garry Bagguley won the 4BBB Stableford on Sunday March 13 with 43 points. Runner-up was John Walker and Carl Mycock with 43 points, ahead of Tony Hooper and Christine Sherrett (41 points) and Phil Godfrey and Dave Trotter (41 points).

* Jack Marshall and Carl Cross, with a score of 46.8, won the Two-Man Texas Scramble at New Mills Golf Club on Saturday March 12. The pair finished ahead of Tim Higgy and Paul Jenkison, with 47.2.

They were followed by: 3rd, Mike Brennand and Dave McCartney, 48; 4th, Jack Hulse and Keane Hyde, 48; 5th, Harrold Ashton and Dave Coffey, 48; 6th, Peter Shaw and Jeff Stewart, 48.2; 7th, John White and Neil Stafford, 48.4; 8th, Dave Swindells and Danny Wakefield, 48.6.
