Buxton-based thrower Dean Winstanley says he has taken plenty of confidence from his run to the quarter-finals at last week’s PDC Players’ Championship.
Winstanley, nicknamed ‘Over The Top’, recorded morale-boosting wins over Simon Whitlock and Jelle Klaasen before succumbing to Vincent van der Voort, 10-8 in the quarters.
“I think my form is slowly coming back,” he said.
“If someone had said to me last week that I’d reach the quarter-finals of the Players’ Championship then I’d have taken that - I’d have been over the moon.
“I missed a few doubles against him and that’s when my average dropped.
“But he was a good player and he showed he could hold his own.
“I had a dip in form earlier this year but everything has come together recently. I’m in the top 30 now and I feel fantastic.”
Winstanley, whose is married to Buxton darts ace Lorraine, is preparing for the PDC World Championships at Alexandra Palace. The tournament begins on Thursday December 18.
