Over 400 runners tackle challenging Eyam Half Marathon

FOR THE first time in five years, Eyam Half Marathon has produced a new winner.

Wigan Phoenix runner John Morrissey crossed the line in an excellent time of 01:19:36, just under two minutes ahead of Shepshed Running Club’s Gary Burnett.

Hathersage-based Jonny Wilson, of the Fat Boys Running Club, came home third in a time of 01:23:11.

They led a field of more than 400 runners who assembled in Eyam for one of the country’s toughest half marathons.

First lady over the line was Laura Gibson from Totley AC in a time of 01:31:00, nearly three minutes ahead of Sally Hughes, from Sutton Harriers.

Another Totley runner, Jenny Featherstone, was third in a time of 01:37:06.

Funds raised by the event, and other activities organised by the Eyam Half Marathon Committee, are donated to local cancer care charities and village organisations.
