PROMISING teenage motocross rider Damon Brooks is eyeing top spot on the podium at he revs up for the new 2012 season.
The 17-year-old, from New Mills, is currently one of the top-ten fastest youth 250F racers in the UK, with second, third, fourth and fifth-place individual race positions, and third to fifth overall positions, on a standard engine KXF250 Kawasaki in 2011.
For a second year he will be racing in three championships - the British Youth, the Red Bull Pro Nationals and the Maxxis British Championships - and is hoping to build on his strong finish to last season.
“I wasn’t really on the pace at the start of last year, but I progressed from mid-park to getting podiums at the end of the year,” explained Damon, who is supported by Kawasaki UK as well as a number of other sponsors.
“This season I have set myself a goal of trying to win a British Championship race/round.”
Damon’s dedication to the sport sees him juggling punishing midweek training, and race weekends at venues across the UK and Ireland, with his general studies in vehicle Maintenance and Repair at the University of Derby in Buxton.
But the 17-year-old is taking everything in his stride.
“I really enjoy the sport and it has been my life since I was eight-years-old,” Damon added.
“I would love eventually to turn professional and do it as a job.”
Damon also receives tremendous support from his entire family, including his dad Stephen, a mechanic, who is responsible for his son’s bike maintenance and repairs.
