BOXING for the light welterweight Derbyshire Challenge Belt, and headlining the Derbyshire and Essex County match, was Buxton Amateur Boxing Club’s Irvin Magno, against Chesterfield rival Chris Davey in a contest of three, three-minute rounds.
Magno had beaten Davey in the Junior Derbyshire ABA final earlier this season, however this bout far exceeded the high quality seen then.
Magno’s excellent movement during the first round enabled him to land heavy combinations.
Round two saw the Chesterfield boxer closing Magno down, and while intent on keeping his footwork going, Irvin was happy to stand toe-to-toe, enabling Davey to level the scoring.
Both lads continued full throttle in a thrilling final round which saw Davey secure the judges’ decision.
This bout closed an excellent season for Magno individually, and the Buxton team as a whole.
The new season starts in September, and will see newly-registered boxers Jordan Bennett and Liam Burke making their debuts, joining the current squad with newly registered coaches Vic Broomhead and Derek Sircar.
Buxton will hold their first open show of the season at the Devonshire Dome on Friday November 18.
