BUXTON Athletic Club juniors enjoyed a fantastic weekend of results, with the culmination of the Gritty Junior Fell Race final event in the Accelerate Gritstone Series.
Elliot Meylan, finishing as strongly as he started the series, led the boys home, with Will Tighe second and Jacob Buckley a very creditable third.
Hannah Baker was the sole club junior girl in the race, and ran well.
Several senior club members ran in the main event. First home was Mark Pursell (38th), followed by Pete Bailey (110th) and Roland Meylan (115th). Supervet Bill Allsop was the fourth Buxton AC finisher in 141st place.
Back with the juniors, Elliot Meylan finished his school year in fine form, leaving Harpur Hill Junior School as both sprint champion and cross country champion.
In the Parkrun 5k series at Sheffield’s Endcliffe Park, Emma Havenhand ran strongly to finish in 23:46, while Dave Nutton, returning to the sport after long-term injury, completed the course in 31:09.
The eighth, and probably one of the toughest, event in the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series, the Shutlingsloe 3.5-mile race, was held last week. Running for Buxton were: Mark Halsey (14th), Pete Bailey (36th), Sheila Bradley (48th) and Bev Golden (80th).
Will Tighe was once again first home in the fun run, leading the entire field of 43 runners. Elliot Meylan was fifth in the junior race, while Joe Ramsay was ninth.
The next event in the 2012 Club Championships is the Olympic 2012 metre race, due to be held in the Pavilion Gardens on Wednesday August 8, starting at 7pm. All club members are invited to take part.
