MARK Halsey was the first finisher for Buxton and District Athletics Club in the final race of the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series, held out of Leek Cricket Club last week.
Halsey completed the tough, hilly five-mile course in 18th place, ahead of other Buxton AC runners Roland Meylan (41st), Sheila Bradley (49th) and Bev Golden (79th).
The overall rankings for the series saw Halsey take 17th place in the Senior Men, while Sheila Bradley won the Female Over-55 category and was the seventh female overall.
Bev Golden was seventh in the Senior Female category and 15th overall.
On the Junior front, Elliot Meylan was first overall in the Under-11 Boys category and the second Junior Male finisher overall, while Will Tighe took a well-deserved first place overall in the Fun Run series.
Tighe retained his form at the weekend with first place in the Meerbrook Fun Run, while brother James took third place.
Two Buxton club members took part in the ‘No Walk in the Park’ Chesterfield 5k at Queens Park on Saturday. Steve Watson returned a time of 18:24 to finish seventh, while Sheila Bradley finished in 22:51 to claim 34th place and first place in the Over-55 category.
Supervet Bill Allsop travelled to the Lake District last weekend to participate in the Borrowdale 17-mile fell race, which takes in over 7,000 feet of climbing. Allsop was first in his over-70 age category, in a time of five hours, 39 minutes and 18 seconds.
Second home in the event was former Buxton runner Lloyd Taggart, celebrating his birthday in fine style.
